Applications for the summer 2025 Governor's World Language Academies are now available.  Please review the Guide for Students and Parents/Guardians or the Guide for Schools as appropriate before beginning the process.  The application period will close on January 31, 2025 and all tasks must be completed prior to this date.  Please refer to the Student Application Planning Form for individual task deadlines and note that local schools may have earlier deadlines to meet internal needs. 

World Language Academies Schedule 

The 2025 Academies will be held in-person on the following dates:

  • French, German, and Spanish Academies: June 21– July 12, 2025 at Washington and Lee University
  • Japanese and Latin Academies: June 22 – July 13, 2025 at Randolph Macon College

Overview

Since 1987, VDOE has sponsored Governor's World Language Academies, summer residential programs for Virginia's most motivated and talented world language students. As of 2024, more than 10,600 students have completed one of the programs. The 2025 Governor's Summer Residential World Language Academies will include full-immersion academies in French, German and Spanish; a partial-immersion Japanese Academy; and a Latin Academy.

No English Allowed!

2025 Academies Applications & Resources

All application materials must be completed and postmarked no later than January 31, 2025.  Student status notices for the 2025 Academies will be sent in mid-April.  See the sections below for applications and information about specific language Academies.
