Educational Technology Plan

The 2024-2029 Educational Technology Plan for Virginia has been reviewed by the State Board of Education and was accepted as part of their Comprehensive Plan.

The Code of Virginia requires the Board of Education to develop a plan, consistent with, or as a part of, its comprehensive plan, a detailed comprehensive, long-range plan to integrate educational technology into the Standards of Learning and the curricula of the public schools in Virginia, including career and technical education programs. There is also a National Educational Technology Plan.

Local Technology Planning

VDOE provides assistance and resources to help schools divisions develop local plans that are consistent state plan per state law. Please see § 22.1-253.13:6. Standard 6. Planning and public involvement, section B., second paragraph for specific language. Since the division technology plan is considered part of the division comprehensive plan (whether it is written as a separate document or included within the comprehensive plan itself), it should be reviewed and revised, as needed, at the same time as the division comprehensive plan.

Divisions will report that their technology plans are consistent with the annual SOQ Compliance and Other Certifications Data Collection.

  • Textbook Procurement (from § 22.1-238: the term "textbook" means print or electronic media for student use that serves as the primary curriculum basis for a grade-level subject or course.

Virginia Teacher Computer Purchase Program

  • With the Virginia Teacher Computer Purchase Program (managed by VITA), teachers may purchase products, available from state contracts at state discounts from current suppliers who have agreed to participate in this program. The covered personal computers are all Intel/Microsoft Windows based products. Apple Macintosh products are not available under this program at this time.
