Professional Development Opportunities
VDOE continues to provide professional development directly or in collaboration with educational partners to support the implementation of the Computer Science Standards of Learning. School divisions and teachers are encouraged to utilize professional development resources to improve student outcomes through research-based practices and high-quality instruction.
Educational Partners
- CHOICE - research and development project funded by the US Department of Education to build sustainable teacher capacity of over 1000 PreK-12 secondary science, mathematics, computer science, and career and technical (CTE) teachers across the Commonwealth of Virginia. CHOICE facilitates teacher-directed selection of professional learning experiences within a virtual professional learning community (PLC) comprised of multiple Communities of Practice (CoP).
- CodeVA - a 501c3 nonprofit organization that serves as Virginia’s statewide Computer Science advocacy, teacher training, support organization. Founded to ensure that Virginia students are ready to meet the demands of a 21st century workforce. Through strategic partnerships with schools, families, and communities, CodeVA provides equitable access to high-quality computer science education across Virginia.
