TO:  Division Superintendents

FROM:  Steven R. Staples, Superintendent of Public Instruction

SUBJECT: #GoOpen Regional Summit

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is pleased to announce that Chesterfield County Public Schools will be hosting a #GoOpen Regional Summit on August 1, 2017, at the Thomas R. Fulghum Conference Center. This event is in support of both the U.S. Department of Education #GoOpen initiative and GoOpenVA efforts. Attendance at the one day Summit is free. The #GoOpen Regional Summit will provide an opportunity for school division and state leaders to explore opportunities to expand the use of high quality, openly licensed educational resources.

#GoOpen Regional Summits are intended for school divisions that have recently committed to becoming a #GoOpen Launch division or are curious about making a scalable transition to openly licensed educational resources. Among the facilitators will be representatives from #GoOpen Ambassador school divisions who have worked to make this transition.

All divisions are welcome and encouraged to send a team of eight to ten people that include superintendents, technology and/or curriculum leaders, ITRTs, librarians and teacher leaders who will then promote the #GoOpen initiative in their schools after the conference.
