SUBJECT: Nominations for Career Success Stars in Career and Technical Education (CTE)

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is pleased to announce a new initiative called “Career Success Stars,” beginning in 2018.  It will replace the long running R U “College & Career” Ready Magazine, a VDOE production that has come to an end with its final publication of the 2017 Edition.

The new initiative will feature video profiles of the Commonwealth’s brightest Career Success Stars, former students, who are now in their 20s and 30s.  The individual success stories will be available on the VDOE website for students and teachers to view how CTE programs provide skills for career success.

The former students’ success stories will be selected to represent each of the 16 career clusters and 79 related pathways.  Also, there will be featured stories representing an entrepreneur, active military personnel, an apprentice or intern.  Selection considerations will include diverse representation by gender, race/ethnicity, and statewide regional locations.  Once selections are made, the CTE Resource Center will contact individuals for a brief interview and to schedule an appointment for a photograph and video recording session.

The school divisions’ CTE administrator will be provided this information and the nomination form to distribute to their schools.  The nominations are due to the VDOE by April 14, 2017.

If you have any questions, please contact Sharon Acuff, Specialist for Marketing and Related Clusters, Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education, at cte@doe.virginia.gov or by telephone at (804) 225-3119.
