SUBJECT: A Convening of Business Leaders and Educators

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is pleased to offer a professional development opportunity, “Experience Works—Engaging Business and Educators,” to be held June 28-29, 2016, at the Holiday Inn I-64 Westend, 2000 Staples Mill Road in Richmond, Virginia. The targeted audience includes work-based learning (WBL) instructors and coordinators, career and technical education (CTE) administrators, school counselors, and career coaches. Online pre-registration is required and must be completed by May 13, 2016.

This convening brings together business, industry, and educators and will focus on building positive WBL experiences for CTE students throughout the Commonwealth. Highlights include: concurrent sessions featuring exemplary WBL programs, strategic discussions between business leaders and educators, and a selection of six industry tours in the Greater Richmond area.  Refer to Attachment A and Attachment B for more details.  The Office of Career and Technical Education is accepting nominations for presenters to showcase their exemplary WBL programs during the concurrent sessions.

The VDOE will provide instructional resource materials, continental breakfast and lunch daily, and bus transportation to and from the industry tours. There is no registration fee.  Participants are responsible for travel-related expenses and lodging, if needed.  This is an allowable expenditure of federal Perkins funds.
