COMMONWEALTH of VIRGINIA
Department of Education

TO: Division Superintendents
FROM: Steven R. Staples, Superintendent of Public Instruction
The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) have a long history of collaborating in order to improve both the health and educational outcomes of our children and youth. In the spring of 2016, the Virginia Department of Health will administer the School Health Profiles questionnaires to principals and lead health educators to monitor the current status of school health education practices, policies, and activities. Health education data enables improvements in the delivery of school health services to students. Approximately 350 schools will be randomly selected to receive the survey. Principals of selected schools will receive e-mail notification, which includes a survey link for the principal and lead health educator.
The VDOE is committed to working with VDH to help keep our children healthy.
