SUBJECT:  Professional Development Workshops on Local Alternative Assessments

The Virginia Association of School Superintendents (VASS) is providing Virginia school divisions with two professional development opportunities on developing local alternative assessments.  Funding from the Local Alternative Assessment Grants may be used for participation in these workshops featuring two well-known presenters:

February 12, 2015 - Dan Mulligan - Designing Performance-Based Assessments for teachers and administrators in grades 3-8 at the Hilton Short Pump, Richmond, Virginia - to register for this workshop, click on the following link:

Mar. 6 - Jay McTighe - Building a Robust Curriculum and Assessment System around Authentic Performance Tasks for curriculum specialists, instructional leaders, central office staff and school administrators at The Hotel Roanoke, Roanoke, Virginia - to register for this workshop, click on the following link:

Workshop fliers are attached for you to distribute to interested staff members.

In addition, VASS is currently registering teachers and administrators who are interested in participating in Goochland County Public Schools' Balanced Assessment Project on March 9 at Goochland High School.   Participants will have an opportunity to hear about Goochland's model program and to observe the development and administration of Goochland's alternative assessments.  A flier about the Goochland program is attached.  Information about registration is listed in the flier.
