FROM:  Steven R. Staples, Superintendent of Public Instruction

SUBJECT:  2014-2015 Federal Program Monitoring Schedule

The purpose of this memo is to notify certain school divisions that they will receive an on-site or online federal program monitoring for the 2014-2015 academic year for Title I, Part A, Improving Basic Programs Operated by Local Educational Agencies; Title I, Part C, Education of Migratory Children; Title I, Part D, Prevention and Intervention Programs for Children and Youth who are Neglected, Delinquent or At-Risk (Subpart 1 for state agencies and Subpart 2 for school divisions); Title III, Part A, Language Instruction for Limited English Proficient and Immigrant Students; and Title X, Part C, McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Program.  The Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA), as amended by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB), requires states to monitor school divisions for compliance in certain program areas.  Please be advised that the aforementioned ESEA programs will be monitored on a three-year cycle beginning in 2014-2015.

In preparation for the monitoring, the Office of Program Administration and Accountability will host an informational session via webinar on Thursday, October 16, 2014, from 1 – 2 p.m.  The purpose of the webinar is to familiarize school divisions with the federal program monitoring protocol and monitoring procedures.  School divisions and federal programs to be monitored during the 2014-2015 school year are listed in Attachment A.  The full three-year monitoring schedule is available in Attachment B.
