SUBJECT:  2011-2012 Title I School Improvement Data Collection Due September 14, 2012

In order to comply with the reporting requirements stipulated in Section 1111 (h)(4)(F) of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB), school divisions with schools in Title I School Improvement must annually report information related to local implementation of school improvement sanctions.  Attached you will find a list of the school divisions required to complete the report. Please note that under the provisions of Virginia’s approved ESEA flexibility application, Title I school improvement requirements under NCLB are waived beginning with school year 2012-2013; however, the Department is still required to collect school improvement data related to Title I school improvement implementation in the 2011-2012 school year for federal reporting purposes.

The School Improvement Implementation Survey (SIIS) is a Web-based application that ensures accuracy in reporting of information related to Title I School Improvement.  SIIS allows data synchronization with the End-of-Year Student Record Collection data submitted by July 13, 2012, as requested in Superintendent’s Memorandum Number 125-12, dated May 11, 2012, located on the Virginia Department of Education’s Web site at:

SIIS will be available beginning Friday, August 3, 2012, at: Detailed instructions for completing the survey are on the Web site.  The completion deadline is Friday, September 14, 2012.

The survey requires divisions to electronically enter school improvement data on Public School Choice (PSC), Supplemental Educational Services (SES), corrective action, planning for alternative governance, or implementing alternative governance for schools in Title I School Improvement in 2011-2012.  Divisions with Title I schools in Year 2 or beyond of school improvement, schools participating in the SES pilot program, and schools with state approval to offer SES instead of choice are required to enter individual student SES data.  Available individual student SES data from the 2011-2012 End-of-Year Student Record Collection will automatically populate to SIIS.  Additional individual student SES data are required (see Attachment B) and must be entered in SIIS using one of the following options: 1) manually entering the data; or 2) uploading the data in a tab delimited file.

After completing the survey, division superintendents must verify the report’s accuracy and sign the verification form provided in the Web-based application.  Signed verification forms should be faxed to Becky Marable, Title I coordinator, at (804) 371-7347, by Friday, September 14, 2012.
