SUBJECT:  Changes to the Mandated Reporting Laws for Child Protective Service

The Department of Education has been notified by the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) of changes to the Mandated Reporting Laws for Child Protective Service reports, effective July 1, 2012.  Attached is an informational sheet prepared by the Department of Social Services that identifies the updates, time frames to report, additional responsibilities and penalties that are associated with the current changes to the mandated reporter laws.  The attachment provides links to the specific section of the Code of Virginia referenced and the training and other mandated reporter resources available from the Department of Social Services.
