SUBJECT:  2011-12 Civil Rights Data Collection (CRDC)

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has received word that the 2011-12 CRDC will be a universe collection from all LEAs, schools and state-operated facilities (e.g. schools for the deaf and blind and other facilities for individuals with disabilities and juvenile justice facilities).  This is the first CRDC from a universe of school divisions since 2000.  The Office of Civil Rights (OCR) has informed us they will be collecting Virginia’s CRDC data directly from our school divisions and not through the VDOE.  The Virginia Department of Education will assist you in a successful CRDC submission by communicating any CRDC information we receive and provide the CRDC data we have available, upon your request.

The 2011 CRDC attachment prepared by OCR is attached to this memorandum for your review.  The OCR -2011 CRDC Attachment A consists of the following:

VDOE received an update on January 5, 2012 notifying us that the letters to the superintendents of all LEAs with information about the 2011-12 CRDC including your unique LEA’s logon information for the Advance Web site (AWS) are being distributed the first week of January.  The AWS is an important first step in the 2011-12 CRDC.  The AWS serves three purposes:
