The 2014 General Assembly approved House Bill 758 that will amend and re-enact Section 22.1-298.1 of the Code of Virginia regarding initial licensing in the area of career and technical education. The legislation will become effective July 1, 2014. Please reference Superintendent’s Memorandum #113-14, dated April 25, 2014.
The legislation states, in part the following:
1.A. As used in this section:
"Industry certification credential" means a career and technical education credential that is earned by successfully completing a Board of Education-approved industry certification examination, being issued a state professional license, or successfully completing an occupational competency examination….
D.6. Every teacher seeking initial licensure with an endorsement in the area of career and technical education shall have an industry certification credential in the area in which the teacher seeks endorsement.
The guidance document, Industry Credentials for Teachers Seeking an Initial Virginia License with Endorsement(s) in an Area of Career and Technical Education, may be accessed on the Virginia Department of Education’s Web site. This document provides: (1) the teacher-eligible list of approved industry certification examinations, (2) the issuing organization, and
(3) the specific career and technical education (CTE) area(s), including the corresponding endorsement codes. The Web-based list allows users to access contact information and details for each credentialing assessment.
