Title I: Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged
News Release, October 28, 2014 – State Board of Education Honors High-Achieving Title I Schools
The National Association of State Title I Directors (NASTID), recognizes qualifying Title I schools from each state for their outstanding achievements in education. School divisions are invited to nominate one Title I school in each of two categories. Divisions must submit an intent-to-apply form by October 24, 2014 and the deadline for application is Friday, November 14, 2014. See Superintendent's Memo 277-14.
Title I of ESEA provides financial assistance to support instructional programs in school divisions and schools with high numbers or percentages of low-income students to ensure that all children meet challenging content and achievement standards.
Title I also authorizes federal grant programs that provide funds for reading instruction, services to migrant children, services to neglected and delinquent children, comprehensive school reform and dropout prevention.
